Intro
Hi, I'm John Gornowich. Welcome to my personal site—a place where I share my journey, passions, and
experiences as a technologist, father, and avid tinkerer.
Whether at work or in my free time, I’m always looking for the next challenge. I love digging into
complex problems, taking things apart, and discovering how technology can make a tangible impact on
the world around us.
Work
Over the past 17+ years, I’ve built a diverse career across multiple engineering disciplines, taking
on roles that challenge me to innovate and lead. Below are highlights of the projects I've driven
and the technical solutions I've deployed.
As a signal processing software engineer, I developed detection and classification algorithms for
sonar applications utilizing advanced digital signal processing (DSP) techniques. Built on a
distributed microservice architecture, this system enabled real-time processing of massive sonar
datasets to accurately detect underwater objects, anomalies, and threats. The scalable design
ensured rapid, highly precise results with minimal latency.
In the realm of cybersecurity, I designed and implemented a comprehensive security framework for
integrating submarine subsystems. This required weaving together intrusion detection systems (IDS),
SIEM, centralized key storage, malware detection, and identity management into a cohesive defense
strategy. The resulting framework delivered real-time monitoring and robust protection for critical
systems, meeting both strict operational security and regulatory compliance standards.
Beyond the code, I’m deeply passionate about technical leadership. I’ve proudly guided
interdisciplinary teams through the full Agile lifecycle—from early ideation to final delivery. By
fostering a culture of open communication, continuous feedback, and mutual trust, I strive to
empower my team members to build innovative solutions while growing alongside one another.
About
Originally from Virginia, I’m now a proud Texas transplant, where I live with my wife and our four
children. As a technologist with a master’s degree in electrical engineering, I have a deep passion
for all things technolgy. I love to tinker with electronics, build software, and work on the
occasional woodworking project. My curiosity drives me to explore new innovations and constantly
learn, both in my professional work as an engineer and in personal projects. I’m always looking to
find hands-on ways to apply my skills to the world around me.
When I’m not immersed in tech, I'm usually pursuing my other passions—cars, motorcycles, and the
great outdoors. I have a deep appreciation for American muscle cars and motorcycles, and I spend
plenty of weekends wrenching in the garage. I also love hiking, camping, and simply getting out into
nature with my family. Nature offers a perfect escape, providing awe and inspiration needed to keep
one balanced in this fast-paced world. Whether in the garage, on the trail, or in the workshop, I’m
constantly exploring new ways to blend my love for adventure, craftsmanship, and creativity.
