Work

With 17+ years of experience in various technology and engineering roles, I have developed skills and interests in many areas. Here you'll find details about my professional experience, including the projects I've led and the innovative solutions I've contributed to in the field of engineering.

In my role as a signal processing software engineer, I developed signal detection and classification algorithms for sonar applications using various digital signal processing (DSP) techniques. This system, built on a distributed microservice architecture, enabled real-time processing of sonar data to accurately detect and classify underwater objects, anomalies, and threats. The architecture ensured scalability and efficient resource management, allowing for rapid, precise results with minimal latency.

As a cybersecurity software engineer, I designed and implemented a comprehensive cybersecurity framework for integrating submarine subsystems. This framework incorporated key security components such as intrusion detection systems (IDS), auditing mechanisms, security information and event management (SIEM), centeralized key storage, virus and malware detection, and identity management solutions. The framework was developed to ensure robust protection and real-time monitoring of critical systems within submarines, addressing both operational security and regulatory compliance. By combining these technologies, the framework provided an integrated, multi-layered defense approach, allowing for continuous monitoring, threat detection, and secure access control across all subsystems.

As a leader, I have successfully guided interdisciplinary teams through the full Agile lifecycle, from planning and development to delivery. I have fostered a collaborative environment where diverse skill sets and perspectives come together to drive innovative solutions. By emphasizing open communication and continuous feedback, I’ve ensured that teams remain aligned with project goals and timelines. Additionally, I’ve prioritized mentorship, providing guidance and support to team members, helping them grow both professionally and personally, while building a culture of trust and mutual respect.

Originally from Virginia, I’m now a proud Texas transplant, where I live with my wife and our four children. As a technologist with a master’s degree in electrical engineering, I have a deep passion for all things technolgy. I love to tinker with electronics, build software, and work on the occasional woodworking project. My curiosity drives me to explore new innovations and constantly learn, both in my professional work as an engineer and in personal projects. I’m always looking for opportunities to apply my skills to solve problems and explore the potential of what technology can achieve.

When I’m not immersed in tech, you’ll find me enjoying my other passions—cars, motorcycles, and the great outdoors. I have a deep appreciation for American muscle cars and motorcycles, and enjoy spending time tinkering with them in my garage. I also love being outdoors; this includes hiking, camping, or just spending time in nature with my family. Nature offers a perfect escape, providing awe and inspiration in the timeless wonders that preceded us. Whether in the garage, on the trail, or in the workshop, I’m constantly exploring new ways to combine my love for adventure, craftsmanship, and creativity.
